STEPAHOLIC

STEPMANIA ALTERNATIVE

A free, browser-based alternative to Stepmania

Stepaholic plays Stepmania-format charts using your webcam - no dance pad, no install, no signup. Bring your existing .ssc / .sm simfiles, or play the bundled starter library. If you love Stepmania but do not want to commit to hardware, this is the closest thing to dancing for real that runs in a tab.

  • No hardware needed

Your webcam does the work. We track your body movement and grade hits like a normal rhythm game would grade pad presses.

  • Runs in any modern browser

Works best in Chrome, Edge, or Safari with a webcam. Nothing to download, nothing to install - just open the page.

  • Bundled songs + import your own

Plays Get Lucky (Daft Punk), Just Dance (Lady Gaga), Meet Me Halfway (Black Eyed Peas), and Chop Suey! (System of a Down) out of the box. Drop a .ssc / .sm bundle on the upload page to add your own.

  • Actually free, no signup

No account, no email gate, no trial. Open it, allow your camera, dance. We are not a freemium ladder.

Frequently asked questions

Is Stepaholic a Stepmania clone?

No, but it speaks the same chart format. Stepaholic plays .ssc and .sm simfiles - the same files Stepmania uses - so your existing chart collection works. The input model is different (your whole body via webcam instead of a pad or keyboard), and bundled songs are curated, but you are not locked into a separate format.

How does the webcam input actually work?

We use on-device pose detection (MediaPipe Tasks Vision) to track your body in real time. Step targets are mapped to physical zones around you - left, right, forward, back - and we register a hit when your motion lands in the right zone on the beat. It runs entirely in your browser; no video is uploaded.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Open the page, click "allow" on the camera permission prompt, and you are playing. There is no client to install, no account to create, and no app store dance.

What songs are included? Can I add my own?

Right now: Get Lucky (Daft Punk), Just Dance (Lady Gaga), Meet Me Halfway (Black Eyed Peas), and Chop Suey! (System of a Down). The upload page accepts .ssc / .sm bundles so you can bring your own songs - if Stepmania can play it, Stepaholic can too.

Can I play with a real dance pad?

Not at the moment. Stepaholic is webcam-first by design - it is the entire reason the game exists. If you already own a pad and want to use it, Stepmania, ITGmania, or Outfox will serve you better.

Will it work on my phone?

Yes. Stepaholic runs in mobile browsers - prop your phone up in portrait orientation so the camera can see your full body, allow camera access, and play. Laptop/desktop is still the most comfortable experience because of screen real estate, but the game itself works on mobile.
