Frequently asked questions
Is Stepaholic a Stepmania clone?
No. Stepaholic is a different game inspired by the same genre. Charts are not interchangeable, the input is webcam-based instead of pad/keyboard, and the song library is curated rather than user-imported. If you specifically want to play your existing Stepmania simfile collection, stick with Stepmania. If you want the "dance to charts" feeling without a pad, Stepaholic is built for that.
How does the webcam input actually work?
We use on-device pose detection (MediaPipe Tasks Vision) to track your body in real time. Step targets are mapped to physical zones around you - left, right, forward, back - and we register a hit when your motion lands in the right zone on the beat. It runs entirely in your browser; no video is uploaded.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Open the page, click "allow" on the camera permission prompt, and you are playing. There is no client to install, no account to create, and no app store dance.
What songs are included?
Stepaholic ships with Fraxtil's Beast Beats - 20 community-charted songs spanning a range of difficulties. We are working on adding more chart packs over time.
Can I play with a real dance pad?
Not at the moment. Stepaholic is webcam-first by design - it is the entire reason the game exists. If you already own a pad and want to use it, Stepmania, ITGmania, or Outfox will serve you better.
Will it work on my phone?
Mobile is not the primary target - pose detection runs better on a laptop or desktop with a clear webcam view of your full body. Mobile may work in landscape if you prop your phone up, but expect rough edges.
